Truth: God is not required to explain anything.

For some of us, Isaiah 55:8 is the only explanation we will receive—at least on this side of Heaven—for some of life’s toughest challenges: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord (ESV).

We know that everything happens to bring glory to God, and we know that it is the glory of God to conceal things (Proverbs 25:2).

So, fortified with these truths, we must place our faith and hope in Him, regardless of whether or not we learn why we have suffered various things in this life.

Years before miscarriages, health scares, loss of loved ones, and a difficult adoption process, we chose Ephesians 3:20-21 as the scripture to be in our wedding program. It read: “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (ESV).

Admittedly, we didn’t know then what we know now. Nor do we know now what we will know later. But we affirm what we have believed all along: God deserves glory.

P.S. I met my son in Thailand one year ago today. What a gift he is to me!
